EcoGen opened its first production site of biogas on 10.11.2011. in Jelgava region, whihc is developed and desinged by Latvian speciālists.
The new station, called "Zemgali," is one of the six planned to be build before the end of 2012. Planned energy volume of all six stationLVL. The total project investment to build all six stations will go up to 28.5 million lats (40 million euros). These investments were provided by two funds: Investment Found of Greece, and a joint Anglo-Latvian investment fund Libra Group. By opening the new production Latvia implementats the EU Directive, according to which Latvia is obliged by 2020 to poprduce up to 40% of all energy by the so-called green energy. However, EcoGen plans are ambitious enough - they are eager to become an enterprise of production green energy for the European market as a well. Opening of "Zemgali" is only the first step towards achieving this goal. EcoGen has a professional team of engineers from both Latvia and Germany, who managed to create a new production model that uses the international practice and is adapted to local conditions.Creating a new production will also contribute to the development of local farms, so as to maintain a green biogas needs to be extensively supported by processing about 1,200 hectares of surrounding farmland.
